Office lunch ideas your team will actually look forward to
The best office lunches have three things in common: everyone gets a complete meal, people can make it their own, and it feels a little different from the usual. A few ideas that work:
A build-your-own bowl bar
Lay out rice, proteins, vegetables and sauces and let people build their own. It handles different tastes at once, and it gets people talking. Guests with severe allergies or celiac disease should get their own individual bowl.
A cuisine your team hasn't tried
Swap the usual for something new, like Korean bibimbap and dupbap. A short "what's in it" note on the table makes it part of the fun.
Individual bowls for working lunches
If the lunch is part of a meeting, individual bowls keep things tidy: no queue, no serving spoons, and each bowl goes to the right person.
Shareable sides in the middle
A tray or two of something to share, like japchae or dumplings, makes the table feel generous without much extra planning.
How much food to order for an office lunch
The simplest rule: one full meal per person, plus a shared side for every 10 to 20 people. Don't order "a bit less because some people won't eat much". Someone always comes back for seconds, and leftovers are easier to deal with than hungry colleagues.
Here's how that works with a Doraji order:
| Group | Mains | Shared side | Extras (optional) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 people | 10 individual bowls | 1 regular japchae tray | Kimchi for the table, or 1 regular dumpling order (both contain fish sauce) |
| 20 people | 20 individual bowls, or family-style bibimbap for 20 | 1 large japchae tray | 1 large dumpling order (20 pieces) |
| 50 people | Family-style bibimbap for 50 | 2 large + 1 regular japchae trays | 2 or 3 large dumpling orders |
| 100 people | Family-style bibimbap for 100 | 5 large japchae trays | 5 large dumpling orders |
How we got these numbers: every bowl is a full meal for one person, a regular japchae tray feeds up to 10 and a large tray up to 20, and dumplings come in 10- or 20-piece orders. Individual bowls are for groups of up to 20; family-style bibimbap is for 20 or more. We cater up to 100 guests per order. For other side quantities, ask us about a custom size.
Individual bowls or family style?
Individual bowls
Up to 20 peopleEach person gets a complete bowl. Best for working lunches, client meetings and smaller teams, and the easiest way to match each meal to the right person.
Family-style bibimbap
20 or more peopleWe send everything to build your own bibimbap: fresh toppings, proteins, rice, sauces and serving utensils. Best for team events, office parties and celebrations.
Plan for dietary needs up front
Mixed dietary needs are the most common reason office lunches go sideways. A few habits help:
- Ask when you send the invite, not the day before. Note vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, halal and allergies.
- Count each need and include the numbers in your catering request.
- Choose food that adapts. At Doraji, vegetarian bowls can be made vegan (no egg on bibimbap, no kimchi on dupbap, with a vegan sauce). Chicken, Vegetarian and Tofu Bibimbap (with pan-fried tofu) are gluten-free friendly on rice or quinoa, without gochujang. Only our chicken is halal; we can't confirm our sauces or kitchen prep meet halal standards.
For the full breakdown, see our dietary guide or read vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free Korean food.
Our kitchen handles gluten and other common allergens, so we can't guarantee there's no cross-contamination. If anyone has celiac disease or a severe allergy, please talk to us before you order.

Frequently asked questions
How much food should I order for an office lunch?
Plan on one full meal per person, plus a shareable side for every 10 to 20 people. With Doraji, that's one rice bowl per guest (or family-style bibimbap per person for 20+), and sides like japchae, which comes in trays for up to 10 or up to 20 people.
How far ahead should I order office catering?
We need at least 48 hours' notice for every catering order. For bigger groups or busy weeks, more notice helps.
What's the best office lunch for mixed dietary needs?
Something people can customize. Rice bowls work well because guests choose their own protein, base and sauce, and there are vegetarian, vegan-friendly and gluten-free-friendly choices on the same menu.
Should I order individual meals or family style?
Individual bowls are easiest for groups of up to 20 and for working lunches. For 20 or more people, family-style bibimbap lets everyone build their own bowl and doubles as something to gather around.
Is there a minimum order for Doraji catering?
Yes, $150 before taxes and delivery. We can cater up to 100 guests per order, and delivery is available for all orders.
